Town NPCs

All Terraria town NPCs

Terraria 1.4.5 has 26 town NPCs with happiness: each has biomes and neighbours it likes or dislikes, which set its shop prices. The table lists how to unlock each one, the biome where it is happiest and the best price multiplier it can reach. 21 of them sell pylons. 1.4.5 added the Underworld and Aether Pylons, so there are now 11 pylon types including the Universal Pylon. Town pets, the Old Man, the Traveling Merchant and the Skeleton Merchant have no happiness.

Questions players ask

How do I get more NPCs?

Build empty valid houses and meet each NPC's condition (money, an item, a boss kill, or finding them in the world); the table lists them all.

Which NPCs need a specific biome?

Only the Truffle: he moves in only to a house in a surface Glowing Mushroom biome during Hardmode. Everyone else only cares about biome for prices.

How many NPCs are there in Terraria 1.4.5?

26 town NPCs have happiness preferences. Add the Old Man, the Traveling Merchant, the Skeleton Merchant and the town pets for the full town list.
